recipes for homemade dog treats

This recipe is economical and make 50 treats. 
1/3 c margarine. softened
3 c flour (preferably whole wheat)
1/2 c powdered skim milk
1/4 tsp garlic powder
3/4 c water, room temp.
1 egg

Cream margarine and flour. Set aside. Dissolve powdered milk and garlic powder in beaten egg.  Make a well in flour and slowly mix in egg.  Knead dough on floured surface abt 3-4 minutes. Rollout to 1/2 ' thickness. Cut with bone shaped cookie cutter or other bite-sized cookie cutter.  Place on greased cookie sheet.Bake 50 minutes @ 325.Cool and store in container with loose- fitting lid.

Microwave version:
2 chicken Buillion cubes
1c boiling water
2 c whole wheat flour
1/2 c cornmeal
1 1/2 c powdered skim milk
1c rolled oats
1/2 c veggie oil
2 eggs, beaten

Disolve buillion in boiling water and set aside.  Combine all dry ingredients. Make a well and slowly stir in wet ingredients.  Knead dough 4-5 minutes. Roll out to 1/2" and cut with bite'size cookie cutter.
Microwave for 5 minutes.Turn over biscuits, Microwave another 5 and turn again. (med-high) Then microwave another 2-5 minutes. Cool and store in sealed, plastic bags in fridge..  This makes chewy biscuits for older dogs or dogs with dificulty chewing.
